In 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play in a MLB game, breaking baseball’s longstanding colour barrier and taking the first step towards the end of racial segregation in the sport. Commemorating the 75th anniversary of his major league debut, Nike continues its longstanding partnership with the Jackie Robinson Foundation for the upcoming release of the Dunk Low “Jackie Robinson”. This release utilizes an aged version of Robinson’s jersey as its reference, with the colourway taking on a ‘coconut’, or off-white base, with ‘racer blue’ overlays at the toe, eyestays, heel counter, and at the midfoot’s felted Swoosh’s. Words of empowerment from Robinson then decorate these aged blue overlays, as well as the insole, with his iconic 1947 quote stating: “I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me… All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.” The silhouette is then finished with an embroidered mini-Swoosh at the toebox, a special anniversary label stitched at the tongue, alongside two sets of laces — a tonal pair in ‘racer blue’ & a baseball stitched lace.
The Nike Dunk Low "Jackie Robinson" releases through our online-based raffle to purchase that starts today July 17th and ends tomorrow July 18th at 5 PM.
