In 1891, Dr. James Naismith drafted the original 13 rules for the game of basketball and placed a peach basket at the top of two 10-foot poles while teaching at the YMCA training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. 130 years later, Boston’s own Converse has come together with neighbouring retailer Concepts to celebrate the state’s history in hoops with this week’s release of the Chuck 70 Hi “Southern Flame”. Drawing inspiration from the two peach baskets that formed Dr. Naismith’s early basketball goals, each sneaker features a soft, platinum suede upper with an orange and red gradient that nods to the fruit’s fuzzy surface, from it’s colouration to how it feels. Classic branding comes in the form of a suede patch at the medial ankle region, while co-branded license plates make their way onto the rear of each pair's midsole. This bold tribute to basketball history is then finished with the silhouettes iconic ‘egret’ midsole and gum outsole, as well as two sets of laces in cream and a thematic fuzzy green.

The Converse x Concepts Chuck 70 High “Southern Flame” releases in-store tomorrow, January 28th, at 12pm. The remaining pairs will be available on our online shop at 1pm.

Men’s sizes 7-12 (no 7.5/11.5); $150 +tax.
